The most significant characters in Splatoon 2 are Pearl and Marina, a couple of oceanic DJs who have the show that pretense each time people boot up the game. Outside of a couple of uncommon occasions, they don’t generally find a workable pace perform, however. That is the thing that makes this new video from Nintendo so cool. It includes the two virtual performers on a genuine stage with real musicians for near an hour of magnificently unfathomable music.

The show occurred last October, at an occasion called Nintendo Live 2019 in Kyoto. The Splatoon 2 sets were joined on tage by Callie and Marie, the squid sisters from the original game, and the opening act was none other than K.K. Slider, the singing dog from Animal Crossing.

This sort of virtual performance is not another idea. Comparable technologies have permitted the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku to visit with real bands, and Riot Games has made expanded reality shows a staple of the opening ceremonies for its League of Legends World Championships. Splatoon is an especially good fit for this sort of performance given how its world, notwithstanding being about conscious squids doing combating with ink, was intensely impacted by hip-hop and skateboard culture.
